Potable water at the centre
The potable water at the Melieha Holiday Centre is produced from the sea by means of a desalination process called Reverse Osmosis that uses membranes which filter seawater at a molecular level to remove salt, sediment, bacteria, any pollutants, including viruses that may be present in the seawater.
The seawater is drawn from a deep shorewell to ensure that the seawater being fed to the system is free from seaweed and marine ecology. The product water is instantaneously produced by the Reverse Osmosis membranes and is fit for drinking. Moreover, to improve the taste and adjust the pH level of the water being delivered for use in the Centre, the product water is remineralized.
To ensure that the water remains free from bacteria from the time it is produced until it is used in the guest rooms, kitchens, swimming pools and other water consumers, a small dose of chlorine is added to the water to ensure the delivery of safe potable water at all times.
